<title>Pack 250 News - Special Edition</title>
<link>http://pack.bsa250.org/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=21</link>
<description> “I promise to do my best to do my duty to God and my country, to help other people, and to obey the Law of the Pack.” Over 52 million boys have made this promise since Cub Scouting was introduced in 1930. If your son is in the first through fifth grades, Cub Scouting invites you to visit and maybe join us in Pack 250:

WHEN: 7:04pm, Tuesday, September 2nd
WHERE: Grace Presbyterian Church,
Hwy 160 &amp; Gold Hill Road
WHO: The new scout and his parent(s)

“Why join the Cub Scouts?”
Our mission at Pack 250 is to work with parents to teach values through the fun of Cub Scouting. Our pack is blessed to have over 100 registered scouting volunteers (parents like you). Together we work to teach our Cub Scouts respect, leadership, self-confidence, sportsmanship, goal-setting, and more.

“We are just too busy for Cub Scouts.”
At Pack 250, we take pride in the other activities of our scouts. Most of our families are very active in sports, church, and the pace of life. We have a badge program for participation in baseball, soccer, basketball, chess, golf, and much more.
Cub Scout Pack 250 provides a forum in which parents and sons spend quality time together going places, doing projects, talking, and reading. Other experiences range from learning how to put up a tent, swim, or use tools to complete small projects.
Cub Scouting supports parent and son relationships in ways that result in very fond memories. These experiences are truly time well spent. Young boys recognize that the priorities of parents are expressed in how parents spend their time.

“How can we learn more about Pack 250?”
· Ask your neighbors. With over 100 boys in the pack each of the last few years, chances are someone you know knows about us.
· Check our website at www.bsa250.org.
· Come to our meeting on September 4th.

“What activities are planned?”
In September, we’ll have the “Popcorn Kick off ” Pack meeting. October’s Pack meeting will be “Adventures in Books”. The Pinewood Derby is another highlight of our Cub Scout year. This event is held in January and showcases our model car building talents. Each Cub Scout can build a car, with the help of an adult partner, from the kit that he is given in December. The cars can be as simple or as elaborate as he chooses. The Blue/Gold Banquet is held at the February Pack meeting and recognizes the founding of the Scouting movement. This is a big event for the entire Scouting family. .. AND WE EAT! March is our Raingutter Regatta race. April our Campout &amp; Graduation. May is our Estes Rocket Launch. June features District Day Camp and a Goodturn Project.

“When do we get to go camping?”
The BSA allows Cub Scouts to camp in a family setting at a council-approved facility. Every boy MUST be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian. On September 5-7, we have a “Beach Sweep” weekend in Myrtle Beach at the Lakewood Camping Resort, 5901 South Kings Hwy. In October, We will have our Gold Rush Family campout with activities. In April, Pack 250 will have our Family Campout and Graduation.

Come check out Pack 250!
Our parents are dedicated to our sons and their friends. Pack 250 is a great chance for parents to build friendships with other neighborhood parents.

Young boys grow up fast. Give your son a valuable gift by encouraging him to join Cub Scout Pack 250. The time you invest in him today will make a difference in the person he becomes tomorrow.

<title>Pack 250 News - February</title>
<link>http://pack.bsa250.org/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=20</link>
<description>February 23, 2008

Blue &amp; Gold Banquet
Our Blue and Gold Banquet was Saturday, February 23rd. Approximatly 300 folks attended. The Chinese food was wonderful. The boys got a kick out of the Lion Dance and the martial arts demonstration. All the Dens did a great job on their table decorations. A huge thank you to our event coordinator, Brynne Fisher, and all of the parents of the Cobras who helped make this event possible.
A Special heartfelt thank you and congratulations goes to our graduating Webelos families. Your efforts over the years has made Pack 250 the great Pack it is today!

Help Wanted
As our Webelos II scouts make their transition to Boy Scouts, many important Pack roles will be need to be filled. Many parents don’t have the time to be Den Leaders, but do want to help. Remember: Many hands make light work. If you are interested in volunteering your talents, contact Matt or Ken.

March 11th Leaders Meeting
Our next leaders’ meeting is on Tuesday, March 11th, 7:04pm, at Grace.

Ready, Set, Blow!
March 25th, 7:04pm, at Grace Church we will have our Raingutter Regatta. This is a small balsawood sailboat kit that you build and paint. We will race them the length of special raingutters full of water with each scout gently blowing on his sail (practice in the bathtub). Some Dens received their kits at the banquet. Contact Matt if your Den still need theirs.

This race does not last as long as the Pinewood Derby because it is single-elimination.

Here are some vital details for the BIG RACE:
·	We’ll need one parent volunteer from each den to help that night.
·	Please be sure to seal your boat. Balsawood will soak-up water and your boat will sink.
·	Materials not provided in the kit must be for decorative purposes only.
·	SINGLE-HULL designs ONLY.
·	Do not use OUTRIGGERS, stablizers, or motors.
·	Use the sail in the kit. (it may be cut and/or shaped)
·	We will race first for DEN CHAMPIONS – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals.
·	We will race DEN winners for the PACK CHAMPIONSHIP - 1st, 2nd, &amp;3rd place trophies.
·	We will also be awarding trophies for the following CRAFTMANSHIP categories: Cubs’ Choice, Best Paint, and Best Design.

This is one of only 2 individual competitive events the pack runs each year. The Race Officials are volunteers doing their best. There will be boys who win and boys who lose. Please prepare your son (and yourself) to demonstrate good sportsmanship …….win or lose.

Summer Means Camp
Cub Scout Day Camp (for current 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders) will be May 16th – 20th. Fees are approx. $70 per Scout. Webelos Resident Camp (for current 3rd &amp; 4th graders) will be May 8-11, or 11-14. Fees are approx. $70 for Scouts and $30 per Adult. Look for forms and fee information coming soon by email. We need to have everyone interested to be signed up by the March 28th Pack Meeting.

Campout &amp; Graduation
May 2-4 is the date, camp Bud Sheile, Rutherfordton, NC is the place. This is a FAMILY event. At the very least, one parent MUST accompany every Cub Scout. You may come and camp as early as Friday after 4pm, and leave Sunday, by Noon. The first activity is a Pack-wide lunch on Saturday followed by afternoon activities. Dens should plan a meal together Saturday evening. You can even come for just Saturday (especially the Campfire Pack Meeting &amp; Graduation at 7:04pm). More details next month.

<description>January 26, 2008

Pinewood Derby
I hope everyone (Cub Scouts and Parents) enjoyed designing, cutting, sanding and painting together. That is the real FUN of the Pinewood Derby. Congratulations to all of our winners. A special thanks to the Sonny Sams and his Club Members for bringing out their cars for out Scouts to see and for judging our paint and design categories. Also, thank you very much to the many folks who helped set up and tear down the tracks and clean and reset the Church. Thanks to Crew 250 for providing the Snack Shack for us. Be sure to check out the end of the Newsletter for Pack and Den Champions.

District Pinewood Derby
The top 2 racers from our pack are eligible to race. Any other scouts must survive time trails that morning. More info will be sent by email when it’s available.

Scout Sunday
Grace Presbyterian’s service commemorating Scout Sunday will be February 10th at 10:15am. We will need some scouts in full uniform to help with greeting, and the offering. Please contact Matt if you want to help. Everyone from the Pack is welcome, however we encourage you to attend your regular church in uniform (see if your pastor would briefly recognize all scouts and former scouts during the service). Be sure to check the date your Church’s Scout Sunday date. All scouts that attend any church in uniform on for your Scout Sunday Service will earn a special patch at February 22nd’s Blue &amp; Gold. Let your Den Leaders know if the patch has been earned.

Changes are Coming…
At the Blue &amp; Gold next month and the Roadrunners and Scorpions will be graduating into the Boy Scout Troop. Along with those outstanding scouts, their parents will also be leaving the pack. This will create vacancies in some important pack leadership positions. If you have interest in helping the pack stay strong by contributing your talents and time, contact Ken or Matt to learn more. Many hands make light work!

Feb. 23rd Blue &amp; Gold Banquet
In February, we will celebrate with our annual Blue &amp; Gold Banquet. This year, our outstanding popcorn sale will allow us to have our event at Camp Thunderbird Food will be provided. The Banquet will begin at 4:30pm..

3.	Width shall not exceed 2-3/4 inches.
4.	Length shall not exceed 7 inches. Height shall not exceed 8 inches.

6.	Altering the shape of the wheel tread area beyond sanding the small molding stub off and polishing the tread area is prohibited. Axles may not be altered in anyway except for removing burrs and polishing.
7.	Wheel bearings, washers, &amp; bushings are not allowed.
8.	Springs for suspension are not allowed.
9.	The car must be free wheeling with no starting devices.
10. The front bumper of the car may be rounded or square. Cutting a wedge to go around the starting pin is prohibited.
11.	The minimum clearance between the bottom of the car and the track surface shall be 3/8 inch so the car will clear the track's center guide strip.
12.	The wheelbase (distance between the front and rear axles) may not be altered from the kit measurement of 4-1/4 inches.

15.	Graphite or other powdered lubricant can be applied only once before the car enters the church. No additional graphiting or lubricating will be allowed inside the church or once racing begins.
16.	Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee. Once it has passed inspection, the car will be placed on a table and will be removed only by the Cub Scout to race and then be returned to the table as soon as the race is over.
17.	After passing inspection, the only person authorized to handle the car is the Scout. Major repairs may be assisted by a parent.
18.	Repair time for loose wheels, etc. is 2 minutes. One repair allowed per car.
19.	The race will be double elimination.
20.	If a car jumps the track, the race will be repeated with the cars on the same lanes. A car jumping the track twice will be eliminated from the heat.
21.	In the event of a tie, the heat will be run again on opposite lanes.
22.	Cars must be registered on time, and may NOT be raced by anyone other than that scout. No stand-ins.
23.	Missing a heat or racing in the wrong heat must be caught before the running of the next heat, else results stand. (ALL scouts need to listen for their names).
24.	Although rare, any timely requests to resolve disputes will be settled by Assistant Cubmasters Evan Helms and David Lancaster. Any timely appeals of those decisions will be settled by Cubmaster Matt Peterson and Committee Chair Ken Lake.

Leader's Soliloquy
That no household task was left undone
In my home, I will not stay.
Dust feathers are under the bed,
Building tomorrow today.

I went with boys on a nature hike
In a woodland beside a stream.
We saw spring stretch and yawn and grow,
Awakening from winter's dream.

We walked together and laughed together,
We saw the robin's return.
We cooked together and ate together
And watched the campfire burn.

Yes, a household chore was left undone
In my house just over the way.
But I've been busy, as busy as can be,
Building tomorrow today.

?	Fliers will be distributed at Gold Hill.

7.	Wheel bearings, washers, &amp; bushings are not allowed.
8.	Springs for suspension are not allowed.
9.	The car must be free wheeling with no starting devices.
10.	The minimum clearance between the bottom of the car and the track surface shall be 3/8 inch so the car will clear the track's center guide strip.
11.	The wheelbase (distance between the front and rear axles) may not be altered from the kit measurement of 4-1/4 inches.

20.	In the event of a tie, the heat will be run again on opposite lanes.
21.	Cars must be registered on time, and may NOT be raced by anyone other than that scout. No stand-ins.
22.	Missing a heat or racing in the wrong heat must be caught before the running of the next heat, else results stand. (ALL scouts need to listen for their names).
23.	Although rare, any timely requests to resolve disputes will be settled by Assistant Cubmasters Evan Helms and David Lancaster. Any timely appeals of those decisions will be settled by Cubmaster Matt Peterson and Committee Chair Tim Smith.

<description>Popcorn Celebration
Tonight, our Scouts will celebrate an outstanding job on our one and only fundraiser. Thank you to all of our parents for your patience and understanding with an unusually hectic popcorn sale. A special thanks to Maggie Moo?s, Pizza Planet, Papa Johns, and Village Pizza for their donations and for supporting our Scouts. See the back of this newsletter for full Popcorn details.

Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!!!
On Saturday, January 27th, we will have our Pinewood Derby Championships at Grace.
Each den MUST give David, Evan, or Matt the names and phone numbers of 2 parents that would be willing to serve as Race Officials (check-in, starting, scoring, finish-lines, etc.). There will be a Race Officials' meeting at 7:30pm on Fri., Jan. 26th. We will work hard to make sure these parents get to see their son(s) races. We will also have a FOR FUN ONLY Sibling Race.
Here are some vital details for the BIG RACE:
?	We need help at the church setting up the tracks on Friday (Jan. 26)afternoon 3-5pm.
?	Friday night from 7-9pm, we will open the church for PRACTICE. You can test-weigh your car, and take a couple trips down the track. Be patient if everyone shows up at once.
?	Please DO NOT use any wheel lubricant of any kind inside the church. It makes a HUGE mess. NO LIQUID LUBE IS ALLOWED.
?	Saturday morning we will begin checking-in cars at 9am, racing starts at 10am.
?	We will race first for DEN CHAMPIONS ? 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals.
?	Then we will race the DEN winners for the PACK CHAMPIONSHIIP ? 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies.
?	We will also be awarding trophies for the following CRAFTMANSHIP categories: Cubs? Choice, Best Paint, &amp; Best Design.
The Race Officials are volunteers doing their best. There will be boys who win and boys who lose. Please prepare your son (and yourself) to demonstrate good sportsmanship ??.win or lose.

January 9th Leaders Meeting
We?ll meet on Tues, Jan. 9th, at 7:04pm. Each den should strive to make sure they have AT LEAST one adult at this meeting.

Feb. 24th Blue &amp; Gold Banquet
In February we will celebrate the birthday of the BSA with our annual Blue &amp; Gold Banquet. The theme for the evening is ?Aloha, Cub Scouts? with a den Table Decorating Contest. How will your den share this theme at the banquet? The Scorpions will be coordinating this event. Because of how large our pack is, we will again have this year?s event at Camp Thunderbird. We eat at 4pm, and the program will start at 4:45pm. We will be presenting the coveted Arrow-of-Light award to some of our Webelos. Because of our very successful popcorn sale, the Pack will provide the meal. Please let your Den Leader know how many in your family plan to attend so we know how much food to provide.

Coming Next Year
The Special Events Committee is working on:
?	March 27th Raingutter Regatta
?	April 20-22nd Campout &amp; Graduation
?	May 22nd Rocket Launch
Parents, if you want to help with these events, call Matt, David, or Evan

<description>POPCORN! POPCORN!
Our Trailsend Popcorn Sale went very, very well. We should know a firm pick-up date in the next few days.
Here are some important details to wrap-up our sale:
?	Make sure you have delivered ALL of your popcorn to your customers. You cannot say THANK-YOU enough. Please apologize for the late delivery.
?	Save your order form for next year. A repeat customer is your best customer.
?	Prizes will be distributed December 19th.

THANK YOU to everyone!!! Especially Pack ?Kernel? Rikke Gillespy, Janet Peterson, and the Den Lieutenants. We will have another FUN year in Scouting!

Scouting for Food
Hundreds of our neighbors donated canned food on November 18th to support the Fort Mill Care Center. Our Pack collected over 1,000 pounds of food! Thanks to everyone that helped with this GOODTURN, especially Coordinator Tim Smith.

December 2nd Holiday Parade
The Fort Mill Holiday Parade is on Saturday, December 2nd. It starts at Unity Cemetery, goes west on Tom Hall, down Main, and north on White (160). Our coordinator for the parade is David Lancaster.

If you want to march in the parade:
?	You must wear uniforms. Blue shirt, cap, and blue pants for Wolf &amp; Bear Cub Scouts. Webelos wear the tan shirt, cap, and green pants. All scouts should dress for the weather (sweatshirts and even light jackets can be worn under a uniform shirt).
?	Meet at the Ft. Mill School District Office parking lot (behind the firehouse) BY 10am. We will then walk to our starting spot.
?	Each den should bring their Den Flag. Den leaders (or designated parent helper) should make sure all boys get a chance to carry the Den flag for a little while. Roadrunners and Scorpions will take turns carrying our Pack, SC, and US Flags.
?	Dens that have a Junk Yard Racer may bring them to push SLOWLY in the parade. Please work out a driver rotation to avoid any ?fights? during the parade. Racers can be delivered pretty close to the cemetery by truck.
?	Any snacks/drinks are a family responsibility. Do not bring anything, like candy, to throw.
?	Each Den is responsible for their scouts, making sure that they are accounted for at all times, and they get home okay. TIGER CUBS can only participate WITH a parent (their own). All parents and families are invited to march with us as well (strollers and wagons are cool).

<title>Pack 250 News - August 2006</title>
<link>http://pack.bsa250.org/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=3</link>
<description>Uh Huh, Oh Yeah!! We had 54 new Scouts join Pack 250 last week. We have hit the ground running again this year with the Beach Sweep just around the corner. Please let your Den Leader or me know if you will be attending. Parents play an important role in Scouting by encouraging your son and his Leaders. Parents are also the pool that our Cub Scout Leaders and other volunteers come from. Cub Scouting is not an activity that a boy does alone. He has to have your support. We also realize that scouting is not the number o?ne priority of any family. We all have family, church, school, work, and other community involvements. In fact, most of our Cub Scouts are very good students and sportsmen, as well as great Scouts. The strength of our Pack is our families and the commitment they have to everything they do.Pack 250 NewsGrace Presbyterian ChurchOpen House ? Aug 29, 2006 September 5th Leaders MeetingOn September 5h, at 7:04pm, at Grace. All Den Leaders, Assistant Den Leaders, Pack Committee Members, and any interested parents will gather to get our fall going. This meeting is very critical, and is for adults o?nly. Come dressed as you are, no uniforms necessary. Please help out your leaders by offering to keep their kids if needed. Don&amp;#39;t forget, Cub Scout Leader Specific Training will be offered for ALL positions o?n Saturday, September 16th and again o?n October 14th beginning at 8:30 am at 1st Presbyterian Church, 234 East Main Street, Rock Hill. Let me know which you can attend so I can get you registered. September 8th ? 10th Beach SweepOn September 8-10, the York District has a &quot;Beach Sweep&quot; weekend in Myrtle Beach at the Lakewood Camping Resort, 5901 South Kings Hwy. This is a big family camp. Scouts must be accompanied by a parent, no ?adoptions?. Each family is responsible for all their own tents, equipment, and meals (a grocery store and several restaurants are close). If you are bringing a camper, please contact the campground (1-877-LAKEWOOD) to make your own arrangements. The tent camping fee (including both Friday and Saturday) is $12 per person and patches are $2ea. We will be sweeping the beach for trash Saturday at 9am.
